Class Description

"Practice of yoga helps to improve body awareness and also leads to better sleep"

Students will find a variety of yoga classes such as Hatha Flow, Gentle Hatha, Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, Pre Natal Yoga, Mom and Baby Yoga, Kids yoga and Yoga for runners at our Yoga studio in Ajax. Private sessions also available by appointment.

HATHA AND HATHA FLOW

Hatha Yoga includes breathing, asanas (postures) and relaxation. It is the type of yoga best known in the West. It is very versatile and it can move from a very simple,  stretching series of postures to more advanced and challenging ones. All internal organs and glands are stimulated, balancing the body’s natural chemical and hormonal levels.

Hatha Flow is a yoga class that builds strength and stamina. It is a fast paced flowing asana practice that emphasizes a sequence of movements synchronized with breath and eye focus.

YIN YOGA

Yin yoga gently stretches and rehabilitate the connective tissue that forms our joints. The fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is holding the poses for several minutes because connective tissue doesn't respond to brief, rhythmical stretches the way muscles do. It utilizes lots of forward bends and seating postures and it includes breathing techniques. The yoga postures can be modified to suit balance-challenged people with a restricted range of motion, arthritis or osteoporosis.

Meditation and relaxation exercises are also conducted.

POWER YOGA

Vigorous type of vinyasa yoga. It is a flowing meditative class harmonizing breath with movement and cultivating strength, agility and flexibility. It works the entire body, with an emphasis on upper body strength (core and arms mostly). It is suitable for beginners and regular students seeking for a faster paced class. Improve concentrations and breathing capacity.

I kept doing my yoga practice when I was pregnant and I loved every minute of it....... -Lorena.-

The holistic prenatal yoga program is customized for each woman, depending on which trimester she is in, types of potential discomfort issues and range of mobility.  Lorena will develop a routine of modified postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques.  Handouts will be provided at the end of the program in order to help ensure a regular yoga practice is maintained.

1 hour Nutritional workshop will be offered at the beginning of the program to ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Lakeside Yoga studio works side by side with Living Foods Nutritions to provide a holistic service to their students.

MOM AND BABY YOGA

Mom and Baby yoga is a 10 week program. These yoga classes include restorative postures that will help a mother’s body to heal in harmony by developing strength and flexibility in a relaxing environment. The main purpose of these classes is to give the mother and child a comfortable, supporting and non- judgmental space where the mother can practice yoga and meet other mothers in the community while they bond with their babies. Newborns, pre- crawlers and strollers are welcome.

KIDS YOGA   (More..)

Lorena is a certified Rainbow Kids and Yoga 4 Kids ™ teacher. She creates a fun yoga class including breathing exercises, games, songs, story time, basic yoga postures, acrobatics, art, relaxation and meditation. Programs are suitable for toddlers and mommies (2 1/2 to 5 years old) and kids from 6 to 9 years old.

Practice of yoga in kids helps to improve their concentration, as well as balance and body awareness, both emotionally and physically

YOGA FOR RUNNERS

Yoga is a great complement to running. The postures in this specialized program will help strengthen and stretch the runner's body.
Runners will sharpen their competitive edge with increased speed, improved recovery times and decreased risk of injury by keeping their joints and muscles nourished. In addition, yoga breathing techniques provide energy and serenity which makes any run that much more enjoyable.
